Housing Minister Roger Jaensch said 114 new dwellings had been completed and 29 homes refurbished in the past three months.
“We’re meeting and exceeding our housing targets which will deliver over 900 homes for low-income Tasmanians by this time next year,” Mr Jaensch said.
Labor’s housing spokesman Josh Willie said the government was simply replacing houses it had sold.
“Demand is increasing, people are still living in tents and cars and are waiting 72 weeks for priority housing which is for those in urgent need,” Mr Willie said.
“We are in good economic times and we cannot house our most vulnerable people.
“On top of this our population it set to grow more by more 8000 in the next two years so 3500 more houses need to be built.”
There were 3190 Tasmanians on the housing register at the end of May.
