Mona Foma has been recognised as the best contemporary music festival for the second year running at the country’s top live performance awards ceremony.
The festival, which is relocating from Hobart to Launceston in 2019, won two categories at the 2018 Helpmann Awards.
It won the Best Contemporary Music Festival prize for the second year in a row.
Mona Foma and the Sydney Festival, along with Grammy Award-winning Australian musician Gotye, were jointly recognised for staging the Best Australian Contemporary Concert.
Festival curator Brian Ritchie said it was “dizzying” to win the best festival award two years in a row.
“We’ve been nominated for Best Contemporary Music Festival four times and taken the award three of those times,” he said.
“It’s a golden age for music in Tassie.
“We’ll be using the momentum to bring a great selection of international artists to Lonnie and mix them up with the locals.”
