Tasmania Police responded to the incident about 1.50am on Sunday morning.
The man, a 49-year-old from Legana, received critical injuries after an alleged assault.
He was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, where he remains in the intensive care unit.
Tasmania Police charged a 22-year-old Riverside man with causing grievous bodily harm.
He appeared in an out-of-hours court session on Sunday morning and was remanded to reappear in the Court of Petty Sessions on Monday afternoon.
Tasmania Police is appealing for witnesses in relation to the incident.
