Students at the Newnham and Inveresk campuses can travel free with the bus company from Monday to Friday next week for UTAS’ Welcome Week.
The free rides are being offered on Turn Up and Go routes 6, 7, 8 and 10 when students show their UTAS ID.
Students at UTAS’ Cradle Coast campus will also gain free access to routes 40/50, 41/51 and 85 for the week.
Tasmania University Union Nothern Campus president Sean Kebbell welcomed the offer.
“There is not a lot of car parking availability for students at the Northern campuses, so this environmentally friendly travel option is perfect,” he said.
Metro chief executive Megan Morse said the company wanted to help out students on a tight budget.
“Supporting students to make use of Metro services makes sense as, like anyone on a tight budget, public transport is a compelling alternative to the cost of owning and operating a car,” she said.
