Youngsters were invited to take a Taiko drum class as part of an activity day held at the recreation centre.
The class was led by Yyan Ng, who has been learning taiko for 12 years in Tasmania.
“You have been told not to hit things, you’ve been told not to shout,” Mr Ng said.
“With taiko drumming ... they’re told to shout and hit it as hard as possible.”
Mr Ng also believes that taiko can be therapeutic for those with behavioural issues.
Taiko drumming is believed to have originated in ancient Japan.
