Vrontios, prepared at West Moonah by Kevin McConnon, has won two of his past three outings over the stayers’ trip including the Sky Racing Distance Championship when he scored by almost six lengths over Wynburn Lucifer in 42.80.
He dominated the staying ranks again in Launceston last Monday night, winning a Free For All by 3 ½ lengths from Metanoia Franko and Wynburn Lucifer. It was is 11th career win from 59 outings.
Chasing a feature race double within three weeks, Vrontios will take on a handy field in Monday night’s Winter Stakes final at Mowbray where he again comes up against Wynburn Lucifer.
The Butch Deverell-trained Wynburn Lucifer broke through for her first victory in six starts over the distance when she took out R L Foley Perpetual Stakes in May.
