Get your dance shoes ready for a big night of hip swinging and toe tapping on Saturday. Dance schools SwingMania and Sabor Latina are teaming up to host Come Dance with Us at the Launceston Workers Club. The evening will provide an opportunity for people to try swing or salsa dancing and help the groups raise funds, according to SwingMania president Cassandre Tickner-Smith. “There’s a taster class of swing and salsa and a couple of performances to give people an idea of what you could look like if you keep at it,” she said. “We’ll all be passing around partners and having a lot of fun.” Ms Tickner-Smith said she had been involved in swing dancing for six years. Her group meet every Wednesday at the Launceston Workers Club. “I love the energy, I’ve made so many friends through it and you can travel around the world and do it, because there’s always somewhere you can go dancing.” Sabor Latina teacher Takanobu Nakamura said it took about one year of practice to become proficient in salsa dancing. “Dance is for everyone,” he said. Come Dance With Us starts at 7pm on Saturday and is open to people without experience or a partner. Entry is $10 per person at the door.
