From mid-July to April next year, mini concerts will be held fortnightly on Sundays at the Design Tasmania centre.
Produce and DJ Akouo will start the free Sunday sessions on July 16.
Mona Foma executive producer Shelley McCuaig said a diverse type of artists would perform.
“We’ve got a traditional harpist that will be doing more of a punk set with us. We've got EDM producer who is normally quite commercial who will be using more of his ambience work that hasn’t really seen the light of day before,” she said.
“One of the events will be a mystery session and we’ll be asking audiences to take a chance on this one.”
Ms McCuaig said plans for the events had been in the works for a while as a way for Mona to have a year-round presence in Launceston.
The sessions will give local musicians a chance to perform in a different setting.
“Mofo Sessions will promote local talent as well as taking advantage of interstate and international visitors to Tasmania, giving Launceston a taste of Mona Foma before the full festival launches next year,” she said.
Speaking to The Examiner, organisers revealed the first six artists:
- Akouo – July 16
- Emily Sanzaro – July 29
- Mystery session – August 12
- Brian Ritchie and Yyan Ng – August 26
- Alex South, Ros Dunlop and the Tasmanian Clarinet Quartet – September 16
- Jason Whatley Quintet – September 30
Despite Mofo being held in January, organisers plan to keep the party going with funding for the Sunday Sessions secured until April.
“We're doing three seasons, so we're launching the first three months now,” Ms McCuaig said. “Then we’ll have October, November and December. Take bit of a break for the festival and we come back February, March, April.”
City of Launceston, Mona and Design Tasmania are funding the events.
