Exactly $30,004.40 has been raised by the Launceston community toward the appeal’s goal of $60,000.
The Examiner’s editor Courtney Greisbach said though getting over the halfway point was exciting, the support of the community was still needed until the appeal’s end.
A cocktail party at Penny Royal aims to bring the community together for the cause.
“We would love to see the community’s support translate into the cocktail party, to both celebrate the generosity of the community, and to help those in need this winter,” she said.
“It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together.”
Funds are distributed to four Launceston charities – the Benevolent Society, St Vincent de Paul, the Salvation Army, and City Mission.
Camerons Accountants and Advisors was one of many businesses to donate to the appeal.
Receptionist Karan Williams said they loved being able to give back to the community.
Donations to the Winter Relief Appeal can be made in-person at Fairfax Media offices, or at businesses displaying a Winter Relief Appeal tin. Donations can also be made online or via mail.
