Luca Brasi released their fourth album, Stay, on June 22.
Lead singer and bassist Tyler Richardson said he wanted to thank everyone one who had listened to the album so far for their support.
“We always hope for the best, but expect the worst,” he said.
“That was the case with this [album] too. Basically, as a group we were like, we’re not going to put all of our eggs in one basket.”
Richardson said they were “stoked” to hear the news.
“It’s been amazing. It’s been out for less than two weeks and it’s firing away, it’s been so positive,” he said.
Richardson said the response to this album was bigger than anything they had ever done before.
“We really hoped that it would be received well, but we try not to expect anything,” he said.
“We’re just blown away. It’s been an amazing couple of weeks to be part of this band.”
As the band formed at St Helens in 2009, Richardson said they were excited about triple j’s upcoming One Night Stand concert coming to Tasmania’s East Coast.
“For that town, it’s absolutely huge,” he said.
“We’ve spoken to a lot of our mates and some businesses and everyone is so pumped about this, there’s a huge buzz – not only in St Helens, but right across Tassie.”
Richardson said when the band was growing up at St Helens, there was no opportunity to watch live music.
“For kids to have a chance to see that is incredible. It could be the big thing that happens that makes you grab an instrument,” he said.
For any young Tasmanians looking toward a career in music, the number one piece of advice Richardson had was to to believe in yourself and your abilities.
“We’re from this state and we’ve succeeded, and you don’t need anyone to tell you what to do,” he said.
The band will begin touring again in August, with their first stop in Launceston.
“It’s been really hectic, so it’s really nice to have a bit of a break before we go back to touring full time,” Richardson said.
“But it’ll be lovely, it’ll be really nice.”
Luca Brasi will perform a sold out show at Club 54 in Launceston on August 11.
