Last Saturday the Mowbray business held a fundraising night for The Examiner’s Winter Relief Appeal.
Retreat manager Tania Manktelow said many of the hotel’s regular customers were doing it tough and they wanted to do something to help.
“At The Retreat we are a bit of an extended family, with the bar being a lounge room for a lot of people including mine,” she said.
“All the patrons have their own story, own personalities and struggles, but a few are definitely experiencing more challenges than we can bear.”
Attended by about 50 people, the evening was lead by “pub favourite” Shirley Coombes.
With the help of social club members, the retreat raised $265 for The Winter Relief Appeal.
Ms Manktelow said the event continued a proud tradition held by the hotel in fundraising for the community and helping people in need.

This year the Winter Relief Appeal is celebrating 60 years.
In this time, more than $3.5 million had been donated to four Launceston charities – the Benevolent Society, St Vincent de Paul’s, the Salvation Army and City Mission.
This year’s target is $60,000, with more than $28,000 already raised.
Adding to this will be The Examiner’s Winter Relief cocktail party, which will be held at Penny Royal Wine Bar and Restaurant on August 10.
