The City of Launceston council in April asked the community for its suggestions on a new, original name for the in-progress precinct.
More than 160 ideas were put forward for the space on the North Esk River, from the jocular Parky McParkface, to Cataract Point.
Discussions with the Nomenclature Board and QVMAG’s Aboriginal Reference Group whittled the list down to three names: Lettermairrener Park, Three Rivers Park, and Riverbend Park.
At Monday’s council meeting, aldermen will vote to put their support behind the latter as the new name for the site.
Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten thanked those who put forward their suggestions.
"This redevelopment is going to be something very special for Launceston,” Alderman van Zetten said.
The site was pegged for renaming after it was found it clashed with the Nomenclature Board’s rules for place names in Tasmania – there is already a street called North Bank at Trevallyn.
The site’s redevelopment is due to be finished this year, and will include new walking and bike trails, barbecue facilities, a playground, a ‘Sky Walk’, and more.
A pedestrian bridge to link the precinct to the Seaport will be finished soon.
