Scores were locked in the dying moments before Jess Murphy converted from a turnover to secure a 2.8 (20) to 2.2 (14) win over Friends.
“It was a very hard contest, both teams really put their head over the ball and played some really tough football,” coach Alex Wadley said.
“Friends were a really long-kicking team which was unusual, so our defence found themselves under a fair bit of pressure.
“Grace Bilich and Claudia Agostini in our half-back line repelled a lot of the attacks.”
Captain Kirra Marsden led from the front and received good support from Thelma Echetama and young gun Ebonie Agostini, who received high praise from her coach.
“She’s a year 8 student and probably the best player in the competition already, so watch her in years to come.”
Emily Coogan was the other goalkicker for the winning side.
