Each year, through winter, the newspaper has run its annual Winter Relief Appeal.
Thanks to generous donations from the community, The Examiner has proudly supported its charity beneficiaries – the Benevolent Society, St Vincent de Paul, the Salvation Army and City Mission.
The target of this year’s appeal is $60,000.
For the past 59 years, more than $3.5 million has been raised and distributed among those four charities to allow them to continue their important work, helping those less fortunate.
Donations are still being taken for this year’s Winter Relief Appeal, which runs until August 30.
However, this year, it’s our turn.
The Examiner will be hosting a cocktail party in August and we invite you to join us.
The cocktail party will have three functions, to raise funds for Winter Relief, to celebrate the appeal’s 60th year and to say thank you to our generous community, who have supported the appeal over the years.
It is bittersweet how pertinent the Winter Relief Appeal remains in Northern Tasmania.
It is unfortunate that there are people who are struggling in our community but it is comforting to know the support is there for them if they need it.
Demand for the services provided by the appeal’s four beneficiaries is always constant and The Examiner is proud to have been able to provide constant support for them for the past 59 years.
It is the first time in the newspaper’s history that it has held a function to raise money for the appeal.
The Examiner’s Winter Relief Appeal cocktail party will be held at Penny Royal and every cent of the ticket prices and revenue will be donated to the appeal.
To host the event, The Examiner has been fortunate to partner with the Launceston Chamber of Commerce and Penny Royal.
There has also been extensive support from the local business community, who have come on board to donate some wonderful raffle prizes, that will be announced on the night.
The main prize is thanks to Blue Derby Pods Ride, an adventure package valued at $4300.
We think that is worth celebrating – so come join us.
