“It’s official – I have been selected on the Australian team for the second year!” the Launceston College student said on social media.
Fox, who won bronze in the under-19 race at the Oceania championships in New Zealand in February, is in the junior cross-country team.
The world championships will be in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, from September 5-9.
West Pine’s Amy Cure finished alongside compatriot Alex Manly on the podium of L'Omnium de la Coupe de France.
Athletics
Hobart’s Commonwealth Games silver medallist Hamish Peacock produced a best throw of 77.06m to finish third in the javelin at the Madrid athletics meet on Friday.
Peacock is also scheduled to compete in Joensuu, Finland, on Wednesday, July 4, and Lucerne, Switzerland, on July 9.
Rowing
Tamar’s Ciona Wilson is in the Australian crew that will contest the final of the women’s eight at world rowing cup 2 in Austria.
Wilson is one of five debutants in an Aussie crew making its first international appearance since the 2016 Olympic Games, on the waters of Ottensheim in Linz.
Huon’s Sarah Hawe is in the Australian women’s four which qualified straight to its A-final with heat victory in 6 minutes 25 seconds. Australia was due to contest seven A-finals on Sunday.
Huon’s Georgia Nesbitt teamed up with Georgia Miansarow to finish third in the C-final of the lightweight women’s double sculls.
Meanwhile, North Esk’s Connor Ryan is finalising preparations to compete in the trans-Tasman regatta.
The lightweight sculler is the only Tasmanian representative across three teams named by Rowing Australia.
The Australian under-21 rowing team will compete in Sydney from June 28 to 30 then on Lake Karapiro in New Zealand, from August 23 to 25.
Hockey
Hobart’s Commonwealth Games-winning duo Jeremy Edwards and Eddie Ockenden were both in the Kookaburras team that began its Champions Trophy defence with a 3-3 draw against Belgium.
Trent Mitton (20th minute), Lachlan Sharp (21st) and Jake Whetton (50) scored in the Dutch city of Breda.
The Aussies will next face a Pakistan side beaten 4-0 by India in its opening fixture then India, Argentina and host The Netherlands.
Canoeing
Derwent’s Daniel Watkins said he was happy with his 16th place finish in the C1 semi-final of the International Canoe Federation slalom world cup.
“Only a touch kept me out of the final,” Watkins said after competing in the Liptovský, Slovakia, on Friday.
“So great to know the speed is there for a final qualifying time when I know there were plenty of spots to make more time in my run.
Watkins also qualified for the K1 semi-final.
