Did they know he’d become a doctor? Probably not. But Dr Lovejoy, as he prefers, knew it from a very young age.
“It was a clear cut decision I made when I was very young and I haven’t detoured from that path - if I had a chance to go back and start again I’d do the exact same thing,” said the newest addition to Summerdale Medical Centre.
Dr Lovejoy and his family moved from Sydney to Tasmania at the start of the year and they couldn’t be happier.
“Tasmania is living up to my high expectations - the oysters and salmon and wine are all as good as everyone said, the scenery is amazing and I couldn’t wish for a better place to be working,” he said.
Also living up to his expectations, and exceeding them, is the knowledge he’s gaining through General Practice Training Tasmania - the training body ensuring that he enhances the medical qualifications he achieved through the University of Newcastle, his residency in the Hunter Valley and sub specialty training in Sydney.
I had friends who moved to Tassie and were doing their GP training here and they raved about it. Now I know why.
“It’s a very close-knit family. I’ve met a lot of people, all striving for the same end goal, and that makes a big difference.
“My supervisors, mentors, medical educators and fellow doctors impart a wealth of experience - there’s always someone to talk to if there’s something I’m not sure about.”
Through GPTT Dr Lovejoy not only gets to be upskilled in areas of interest of his choice but he is continually assessed and receives feedback so that he knows how well he’s tracking.
It’s best practice training to the highest national standards.
GPTT provides:
- A positive GP registrar experience
- Highly regarded suite of practical skills workshops
- Integrated communication skills training
- Teaching skills for GP registrars
- Research opportunities
- A unique training environment
Dr Lovejoy said that he’s feeling confident about the future and his ability to provide the best possible healthcare to his Launceston patients.
“My skills are constantly being honed to deal with a broad range of consultations and my understanding of what Tasmanians need and expect continues to grow through this specialised training program.” For more info on general practice training and the AGPT program: www.gptt.com.au
