The Hawks recruit, who was traded from Port Adelaide at the end of last season, on Thursday told Fairfax Media he was feeling good about his new club’s prospects for the remainder of the season.
The ninth-placed Hawks (7-5) have weathered the toughest parts of their 2018 fixture with only two matches scheduled against current top eight opponents to come.
“For us we are just trying to look at each week as it comes and try to get each win as the competition is just so tight,’’ the 22-year-old said ahead of his side’s trip to Launceston to face Gold Coast at UTAS Stadium.
“We have some personnel in our group who have played a fair few finals, so they know what to do in that situation
“We definitely have that belief that we can make the top eight, and hopefully we can get there, and if we make it hopefully we can have a bit of fun in September.
“Hopefully if we can sneak into the top eight we can ruffle a few feathers and give it a red-hot crack.”
He believed displaying some more consistency with their output was the key to achieving this goal.
“I think we are around the mark as I think the games we have lost against good personnel we’ve played a really good brand of football even though I don’t think we have been as consistent as we would have liked,’’ he said.
“We came out on the weekend and that third quarter was magnificent and we felt like that is the type of football that we can play and we would like to play more often.”
Impey, who has featured in all 12 matches this season, averaging 16.5 touches, 3.5 marks and 3.7 tackles a game, forecast the Suns to be a tough opponent, aided by the shot of confidence that comes from last year’s two wins over his side.

“I think they have been doing it a bit tough (with the Suns 15th on the ladder with a 3-9 record), and I am sure they are ready to go to come down to Tasmania and knock us off,’’ he said.
“I reckon they will have great belief they can knock us off again and I’m sure they are ready to have a crack at us again, so we are not going to take them lightly.”
Impey has only played the two games in Launceston in the brown and gold, but it is a place he said he had already fallen for.

“I quite like it myself from a personal level as I think it is one of the best decks going around in the AFL as well, and I do think it is an absolute cracker,’’ he said.
“The boys have a good record there as well, so it is quite good for us as we have great confidence in knowing the ground and the boys absolutely love traveling to Tasmania as we do feel we have that home ground advantage.”
Sunday’s game will be the 100th match for Impey’s teammate Tom Mitchell, who shares the record with Tom Rockliff and Gary Ablett for most disposals in a game in Launceston.
He joined that duo on that list in round 6 against St Kilda.
