The Charles Street floodgate was successfully installed on Tuesday night, as part of a flood readiness exercise by the City of Launceston council.

The bridge was closed between 7pm and 9pm as council staff and emergency workers assembled the bridge’s floodgate system.
The floodgates have a series of rubber-sealed stop logs which are placed between upright posts that are bolted into the road.
The drill is undertaken every few years, to ensure workers are familiar with the set-up of the gates.
