A health forum will be held on Tuesday night and will offer an interactive and self-reflective look at how healthy lifestyles can improve individuals and the city. The forum features a strong line up of some of UTAS’ top Northern researchers and will give the public a chance to hear from them directly about public health strategies and lifestyle changes.

Organiser Scott Pedersen said it was prudent the health forum be held in Launceston because of the focus health will have in the Inveresk campus move.

“We have a fitness clinic here [at Newnham] but it’s tucked away, you probably wouldn’t know that it was here,” he said.

“So to be able to develop a health precinct at Inveresk and invite the community to be involved in that space….we can’t do that here [Newnham].”

The forum is part of the University of Tasmania’s latest approach to health which is predictive, preventative and participatory.

Mr Pedersen said the forum was aimed at everyone in the community, from all ages. Topics for the forum include quitting smoking, nutrition, the UTAS exercies clinic, food systems innovation and gut health. It will also feature Hawthorn Football Club’s David Cox, who will speak about the football club’s partnership and its impact on health.

The forum will be held at the Rory Spence – VOS Construction lecture theatre at the UTAS Inveresk campus from 6pm.
