The completion dates for redevelopments of Civic Square, the Brisbane Street Mall, the pedestrian bridge at the Seaport, North Bank, Macquarie House and the Cataract Gorge have been released by City of Launceston.
The projects are part of a large a number of priority projects adopted by the council at its meeting on Monday.
“In recent years, the council has worked very hard to lobby on behalf of residents for support from other tiers of government to realise these important projects,” Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said.
He said the redevelopment of Civic Square had already been embraced by families and event organisers.
“On fine days, people are taking advantage of the new seating and benches to catch up, read books, have a coffee, or watch their children enjoying the new play space,” Ald van Zetten said.
Final additions to the square are still being conducted, such as the installation of two catenary lighting systems, with the larger one to be installed this week.
"The play space has proven incredibly popular with children — it's a magnet. They are drawn to climb on it and explore it, and to push the various buttons and bells.”
The Civic Square redevelopment is expected to be completed in July.

Work on the Brisbane Street mall is continuing, with 90 per cent of the underground infrastructure complete.
Ald van Zetten said paving is expected to start at the end of the month, with paving to start at the Charles St end of the mall.
“Once about half the paving has been laid, which we expect to occur towards the end of July, construction fencing will start to come down again in stages to open up more of the space,” he said.
The mall redevelopment is expected to be complete before the end of September.
After several months of off-site construction, the pedestrian bridge at the Seaport is well underway.
The largest twin spans were lifted into place this week and the bridge is expected to be complete early July.
North Bank will soon become a hive of activity, after the City of Launceston awarded tenders for landscaping and play equipment installation.
Off-site construction of the play equipment, including the 12-metre-high sky walk, is now complete.
“We expect the contractors to establish themselves on site in the last week of July,” Ald van Zetten said.
In addition, Boral are on schedule to begin commissioning of their new plant towards the end of June.
Demobilisation of the old plant is expected towards the end of July.
North Bank should be completed for residents to enjoy by Christmas.
“Meanwhile, we have been working hard to prepare the tender documentation for a major upgrade of the playspace at the Cataract Gorge,” Ald van Zetten said.
Tenders should be advertised in the coming weeks and the play space will be constructed over the winter months so the area is in good condition for the Australian Tourism Awards, to be held in 2019.
“We expect the Cataract Gorge playspace upgrade to be complete early in the new year,” Ald van Zetten said.
A tender for Macquarie House has been awarded and the timeframe on this project will be finalised in the coming weeks. The project should be completed by mid-2019.
