Formed by a merger between City-South and East Launceston in 1986, South has established itself as a heavyweight of Northern football and will be inducted as a ‘great club’ in Hobart on June 23.
City-South team of the century captain Graeme Wilkinson and premiership star Darrel Green said the award was a credit to the volunteers just as much as the players and coaches.

“Not enough recognition in awards is given to the volunteer people, and we had heaps and heaps who had been there for 20, 30 or 40 years serving and doing voluntary work to keep the kids occupied in a sport,” Wilkinson said.
“We regret the fact that City-South lost its identity as it did in 1986 but we fully support South Launceston Football Club for what they’ve achieved in the timeframe.
“South Launceston deserves an enormous amount of credit, particularly Rod Patteron, the president who was there for years, he did a fantastic job of the guidance of the club in the time he was there.”
Green said both he and Wilkinson were big South supporters.
“The thing that I admire them for now is the junior development - it’s huge, but also what they’ve done as a football club in the North has raised the bar,” Green said.
Former City-South players Wayne Chugg and Berkley Cox, who also played for Carlton, are expected to attend the ceremony.
