Creative director Greg Clarke said this year’s festival includes collaborations with Tasmanian artists, winemakers and chefs, to create uniquely Tasmanian events.
“We really want to create an authentic destination festival .. a Tasmanian experience like no other,” he said.
Last week the festival released a sneak peek of the 2018 program.
The announcement included the program launch party which will be held at Windmill Hill Hall on July 6.
“We are really showcasing the amazing architecture in Launceston, so we really wanted to hold the party in a beautiful hall,” Mr Clarke said.
Not only will attendees be the first to see the full program, they will also be treated to the sounds of Bad Dad Orchestra, Je Bahl and DENNI.
“We are really focusing on Tasmanian artists so we thought this would be the perfect chance to showcase those artists,” Mr Clarke said.
The art-deco hall is just one of Launceston’s many iconic buildings that will be celebrated during this year’s festival.
After huge success down south, Open House Hobart will take Northern Tasmanians on a journey through some of the city’s most intriguing buildings.
“Junction’s always had a reputation for creating extraordinary and participatory experiences in unusual spaces,” Mr Clarke said.
Titled Open House Hobart: A Day in Launceston, the event is a collaboration with the Australian Institute of Architects.
For the third year, Prince’s Square will be utilised as the festival hub. “It will be bigger and better than ever before,” Mr Clarke said.
Roundabout is a dance, light and music performance that will be performed in and around the square.
It will be directed by Mr Clake and will feature Launceston’s roller derby group, the Devil State Derby League.
Mr Clarke said Roundabout was his concept and he was very excited about the piece. The launch party runs from 8pm to midnight.
Tickets cost $10 and are available from Junction Arts Festival’s website.
