The Star Theatre and The Examiner will host a film night on June 19 to fundraise for Vinnies CEO Sleepout.
Brother’s Nest will later feature at the cinema, but those who support the fundraiser will be given a sneak peek.
Star Theatre co-owner Ben Davis said there was a strong link between the cinema and the charity Vinnies.
“At the Star Theatre we feel a real connection to St Vincent de Paul Society as they owned the building in the years between it being a theatre,” he said.
“Supporting the fundraiser means we can continue to have a relationship with an organisation that does so much for our community and is forever a part of the Star Theatre story.”
Brother’s Nest stars Shane Jacobson of Kenny fame. He partners with his brother and actor/director Clayton Jacobson in the dark comedy.
The film tells the story of two brothers whose mother is dying from cancer. She is intent on changing her will to benefit her husband and her sons’ stepfather.
The sons decide to go to extreme lengths – murder – to protect their inheritance.
Mr Davis said it made sense for the Star Theatre to partner with The Examiner to support the community that he and fellow owners Paul Lee-Archer and Andrew Quaile call home.
“From the very start of the Star Theatre development it was important for Andrew, Paul and myself that we contribute to the local community,” Mr Davis said.
“We grew up here in Launceston and now want to give back wherever we can.
“The Star Theatre was a thriving hub of activity in its day, and catered for everyone. As the current caretakers, we want to make sure the Star remains a relevant and valuable part of the community.”
The Examiner’s editor Courtney Greisbach and marketing coordinator Ashton Whiley will participate in the Sleepout this month.
