Contractors began work on Tuesday installing the North Bank pedestrian bridge.
City of Launceston general manager Michael Stretton said a 130-tonne crane had arrived on Tuesday to help with the final stages of construction for the pedestrian and cycle bridge.
“Electrical works for the bridge have also started this week, including the installation of electrical conduits for the bridge's lighting,” Mr Stretton said.
The bridge is 120-metres long and has been manufactured offsite by Haywards Steel at Breadalbane.
The bridge will be assembled over the next couple of weeks by BridgePro Engineering.
There are six 40-metre spans that will be lifted into place by the crane.
Each of the spans will be trucked in to the North Bank site for installation, as well as the four-metre-wide walking platforms.
The bridge project is expected to be competed by the end of the month and the final centre platforms and spans are expected to be installed in the week of June 18.
