The sub-committee, chaired by Kevin Andrews, will hear from former Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Robin Banks, gay rights activist Rodney Croome, and Catholic Archibishop Julian Porteous.
“Many submissions to this inquiry have expressed concern that freedom of religion or belief is being challenged by the emphasis placed on other human rights,” Mr Andrews said.
“What form any additional protections might take, and how to balance religious freedom with other human rights, are matters being considered by the sub-committee.”
It is widely expected that the recent same-sex marriage plebiscite and attempted amendments to anti-discrimination laws will be discussed.
In her submission, Ms Banks expressed the belief that current laws dealt well in maintaining a balance between religious freedoms, and freedom of speech, with anti-discrimination protections.
