Mrs Lewarn will be responsible for boosting the profiles of newly elected members in Bass and Braddon over the next term of Parliament.
Labor leader Rebecca White said the adviser role was newly created to improve Labor’s engagement with the region and provide input into policy.
“Labor is excited about the opportunity to provide stronger representation to the people of the North and North West as a result of the election of more members,” she said.
“Melissa Lewarn will be the first point of contact for stakeholders on behalf of Labor and will also work closely with Labor’s four Lower House members across Bass and Braddon – Michelle O’Byrne, Jennifer Houston, Anita Dow and Shane Broad.”
The appointment comes as Franklin Labor MHR Julie Collins’ former deputy chief of staff, Tom Middleton, starts his new role as the party’s strategy and communications director in the state.
Mr Middleton served in Opposition Leader Bill Shorten’s strategy team and in roles with the Rudd and Gillard governments.
Former TasICT chief executive Dean Winter has also been appointed senior policy adviser to Ms White.
Mr Winter, a former staffer to Ms Collins, unsuccessfully ran for the Legislative Council seat of Hobart in the 2012 upper house elections.
