Anglican Church votes to sell buildings to fund redress

The Anglican Diocese of Tasmania’s Synod has voted to sell 108 properties, including 76 church buildings, to fund its $8 million involvement in the national redress scheme.

After several hours of debate, the decision to carry the motion was passed at Saturday’s meeting just after 1pm.

The diocese is expected to fund $6.4 million of its expected over the first three years of its commitment to the 10-year scheme.

Parishes will now be able to appeal their place on the list of churches for sale.
