The company was awarded the Australian Kitchen of the Year prize at the Housing Industry Association’s 2018 Australian Housing Awards in May.
The award ceremony, held in Singapore for 2018, crowned winners in 27 different building and construction categories.
Impact Kitchens won the gong after winning the state HIA award for Kitchen of the Year.
Business co-owner Rod Huizenga said the Newstead kitchen was an example of what made the company successful.
“Our attention to detail and our ability to build kitchens that are functional to the clients, while also having a design edge that people like, has contributed to our success,” he said.
Hobart-based Cordwell Lane also won the Australian Rennovation Project of the year at the ceremony.
HIA Tasmanian executive director Rick Sassin praised the efforts of the Tasmanian winners.
“HIA members have excelled and it is my pleasure to congratulate each winner for the hard work and dedication they continue to display,” he said. “From sustainable initiatives to incredible workmanship, these homes are remarkable and we are proud to call these winners HIA members.”
Impact Kitchens has been operating for 10 years and is co-owned by Mr Huizenga and his wife Kirsten.
It builds kitchens in the greater Launceston area, with occasional jobs throughout Northern Tasmania.
“[Ms Huizenga] does more the administration side, but I do more the quoting and design,” Mr Huizenga said.
“I don’t get on the tools as much as I used to, but I still get my hands dirty from time to time.”
The company won Kitchen of the Year for HIA’s Tasmania awards twice before their national victory.
Mr Huizenga said all the company’s winning designs had a distinctly contemporary feel.
“Every client is a little bit different, but most people stick to the flat door, minimalist look,” he said.
“The occasional person likes country kitchens, but it’s mostly contemporary.”
