Nine cadets from Launceston, Hobart and Ulverstone took part in the Leadership Level 1 Course, which covered time management, awareness of behaviour management, role modelling, conducting games, demonstrations and leadership.
In order to be eligible for the course, the cadets had to have a minimum of two years experience and be recommended by their supervising officer.
The program is being trialled in Tasmania ahead of a possible national roll out.
It was designed by St John Ambulance national youth project officer Kieran Brown, who said he aimed to provide a fresh learning environment for those chosen for the course.
“They have already had their day in school, so I wanted this to be a new experience,” he said.
“The ratio of practical to theory is about 50-50, so hopefully they had some fun while doing it.”
