Team members Oscar Kinman, Hayden Walmsley, and Malachi Capela alongside mentors Harry and Jon Heathcote made the journey to Houston, Texas, to participate in the First Tech Challenge world championships.
Metal Minds were the first Tasmanian team to be given the opportunity to compete on the world stage, and placed 50 out of 128 teams.
Oscar, Hayden, and Malachi said they did “better than expected” against the world’s best.
The team got one free day to explore Houston. They said their trip to NASA’s Johnson Space Centre “was definitely a highlight”.
The team are now gearing up for the Australian First Tech Challenge competition in December.
“We’re doing it all again,” they said.
They said their Johnson Space Centre visit would come in handy, as the competition theme is space.
