The news of renowned Australian guitarist Phil Emmanuel’s death on Thursday would have been particularly poignant for anyone who saw him play as part of the Guitar Extravaganza at the Forth Valley Blues Festival in March.
Emmanuel joined Kevin Borich and Tim Gaze for a blistering set that not even a torrential downpour could derail. Forth Valley Blues Festival committee member Ian McLean said crowd members knew they were witnessing something special.
“The rain was very heavy throughout the last 20 minutes of their set but the crowd didn’t dissipate,” he said.
“It was just an incredible performance.
“I remember Phil being very personable backstage, and I was told he was the mischievous one of the trio.
“His death has definitely sent shock waves through the blues community.”
