Concerns over the man’s welfare were raised with police on Wednesday morning, after he failed to return from an overnight boat trip.
Senior sergeant Brenda Orr said police attended the Boomer Bay boat ramp where the man had his boat moored, but were unable to locate him.
Following an extensive search by Tasmania Police and two Westpac Rescue Helicopters, the man’s body was located.
Sergeant Orr said he was wearing a life jacket and at this stage there was no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Police are asking anyone who may have spoken to or seen the man in the Boomer Bay area on Tuesday afternoon, potentially in the vicinity of his red single cab ute, to contact them on 131 444.
Information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
A police investigation is being conducted and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
