However, Tasmania Police and the City of Launceston said no reports about the alleged dog baiting had been received.
City of Launceston general manager Michael Stretton said the council was aware of the “disturbing reports” made on social media.
“The reports made on social media are highly distressing to dog owners, and the City of Launceston stands ready to work with Tasmania Police, RSPCA Tasmania and other relevant authorities to respond to any credible reports of dog baiting in the Launceston municipality,” he said.
“However, to date the council has received no reports or first-hand information on this matter.”
Mr Stretton said a query was made to Tasmania Police on Monday morning regarding the alleged baiting, who advised him there had been no reports.
A police spokeswoman confirmed no reports had been made to police about dog baiting in the Launceston area as of Monday evening.
