Division 1 qualified with a 4/3 win over Riverside in the Northern final last week and will come up against defending state titleholders Tasmania with the winner to meet Wynyard on Sunday.
Launceston’s division 2 side plays Tasmania with the winner to meet Thirlstane in the state final and the division 3 Launceston team also plays Tasmania following its win against Scamander River with the winner to face Wynyard.
North-West pennant finals on Sunday saw Wynyard win the division 1 title over Ulverstone. Craig Hancock, Ben Kalbfell, John Kalbfell and Jack Lakin won while Paul Marshall halved with Brady Ludbey. Ulverstone winners were Brayden Field and Cameron Allen.
Thirlstane had a resounding 6/1 win over Ulverstone in division 2 and Wynyard captured division 3 in a close contest with Penquin 4/3.
Northern Women’s pennant teams will play a traditional fixture at Devonport Golf Club on Sunday against North-West teams.
Prospect Vale play Ulverstone at 9.30am for the division 1 Elphinstone Shield followed by Prospect Vale against Thirlstane at 10am for the division 2 Watterson Shield. Exeter ladies will play Seabrook at 10.30am for the division 3 Conroy Shield.
Trainee arrival
Jarryd Collis from the Bryce Gorham Golf Centre has competed in the Australian PGA Trainee Championship at the Presidents Course in Tocumwal.
Collis had rounds of 74,76,73,74 to finish at nine-over par and tied for 22nd place behind the winner Frazer Droop (nine under).
Twin targets
Launceston Golf Club was represented in the men’s and women’s Holden Scramble national finals at the Twin Waters Resort in Queensland.
The men’s team of Daniel Smith, professional, Greg Longmore, Daniel Murray, Andrew Swain and Daniel Harris played well for fifth place overall while the women’s team with Jason Russell, professional, Julie Peltzer, Susie Bezette, Angie Bowden and Helen Palmer missed the cut after two rounds.
Average winners
Golf Tasmania announced the winners of the state averages for the 2017-18 season.
Andrew Phillips again won the Toogood Trophy, named after Alfred Toogood, the father of golfing legend Peter.
After 19 rounds, Phillips finished with an average of 71.25. Mark Schulze was second on 71.58 and Mitch Van Noord third with 71.76.
Georgia Milbourne won the Goggin trophy, named after Lindy, with an average of 72.59. Second was Lindy Goggin’s granddaughter Hallie Maeburn with 75.32 ahead of Lily Caelli on 77.34.
Ryan Thomas won the Athol Shepherd trophy for boys with 69.4 and Isaac Pinnington won the Merv O’May trophy for players aged between 18 and 24 with 75.48.
