Tasmania Fire Service said the house received “extensive damage”.
The damage bill is expected to be about $100,000.
Neighbours described seeing flames coming out the windows of the house.
About 9.15pm on Saturday night, a neighbour knocked on Jasmine Gleeson’s door and told her the neighbouring house was on fire.
“He said ‘the house next door is on fire and you and whoever is inside should get out of your house’,” she said.
“I looked out the window probably 10 minutes before that, but I didn’t see or hear anything at that time.
“When I came out the door I saw the flames coming out the windows. [The windows] had obviously broken.”
The Hargrave Crescent property has been vacant for “a couple of months”, but a family with three children were expected to move in within a few weeks, Ms Gleeson said.
Neighbouring properties did not receive any damage.
