American Bishop Michael Curry stole the show with a fiery, passionate and emotional speech about love that also touched on slavery and the civil rights movement and quoted Dr Martin Luther King Jnr and the Old Testament.

His 13-minute address went way longer than it was supposed to. It had some in raptures and others longing for some wind-up music. He spoke about the power of love but went off script and began waxing lyrical about the power of fire, claiming that the advancement had made possible technological successes like Instagram and live television broadcasting.

Even Harry and Meghan exchanged a giggle at one point.

Reverend Michael Bruce Curry is the presiding bishop  of the US-offshoot of the Church of England - the Episcopal Church.

2. "I do" vows, kisses, giggles and cheers

The couple's love for each other was clearly on display from Harry's first words upon seeing his bride "you look amazing" to a private joke they shared when the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby spoke of God's children and the giggles they exchanged throughout the ceremony.

As Meghan approached, escorted through the chapel's "quire" by Prince Charles, Harry could be seen swallowing nervously but his face broke into a smile as she reached the altar.

When Harry was asked if he would take Meghan as his wife, he said seriously "I will" and after a pause the couple broke into giggles.

They shared private moments throughout the ceremony.

When the pair were declared husband and wife the 600-guests in St George's Chapel made not a sound but the cheer that went up from those gathered in the grounds of and outside Windsor Castle could be heard inside, prompting the newlyweds and their guests to smile.

3. Music emerges as the highlight

Meghan and Harry's worlds were demonstrated by the variety of music throughout the service with two standout performances.

One, was a gospel arrangement of Stand by Me performed by Karen Gibson and The Kingdom Choir.

The other star was cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason who played sublime performances of three classical pieces including Sicilienne, Après un rêve and Ave Maria. 

19-year old Kanneh-Mason won the BBC's Young Musician of the Year competition in 2016. After his royal outing, he's destined to be a classical music superstar.

As the Royal Family posed for well-wishers on the steps of the chapel, they did so to the sounds of Etta James' Amen (This Little Light of Mine).

4. Doria Ragland

Mother-of-the-bride Doria Ragland was notably, Meghan's sole family member in attendance. Her face was overcome with emotion and she wept throughout the service. Her pride in her daughter, a bi-racial actress and divorcee marrying into the British royal family was evident.

While at time she appeared to cut a lonely figure, Prince Charles looked to be taking her under his wing, keeping close to her and chatting throughout the broader family's appearances.

5. Bridal party behaves

Markle's bridal squad was large in number - ten- but tiny in stature, with eldest aged seven and the youngest aged 2.

Anything could have gone wrong but nothing did, with the bridal party of ten, behaving impeccably, and looking adorable.

The bridesmaids included: three year-old Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, Prince Harry's three year-old goddaughter, Florence van Cutsem, Meghan's god daughters Remi and Rylan Litt, aged six and seven respectively, four year-old Ivy Mulroney the daughter of Meghan's girlfriend, and another of Prince Harry's god daughters, two year-old Zalie Warren.

Pageboys included four year-old Prince George, six year-old Jasper Dyer, Harry's godson and seven year-olds Brian and John Mulroney.

The twins carried Meghan's mega-train to perfection while four-year old Prince George who is third-in-line to the throne departed the church clutching the hand of this father, the second-in-line to the throne Prince William.
