On Saturday, about 9.15pm, a neighbour knocked on Ms Gleeson’s door and told her the neighbouring house was on fire.
“He said ‘the house next door is on fire and you and whoever is inside should get out of your house’,” she said.
“I looked out the window probably 10 minutes before that, but I didn’t see or hear anything at that time.
“When I came out the door I saw the flames coming out the windows. [The windows] had obviously broken.”
She said the Hargrave Crescent property at Mayfield had been vacant for about a couple of months.
“A family with three kids were due to move in within the next couple of weeks, I’m pretty sure,” Ms Gleeson said.
Tasmania Police remained at the site overnight, and Tasmania Fire Service arrived back at the scene about 7am to finish investigations, Ms Gleeson said.
Neighbouring properties did not receive any damage.
