State League presidents met on Wednesday night and selected Brady and Tigers president Paul Gadomski to represent the seven clubs at the next meeting of the steering committee, which will take place at AFL House on Wednesday.

Brady and Gadomski’s travel costs will be covered by the AFL.

The trip comes as coaches, support staff, senior and under-age players from TSL and TSLW clubs prepare to don red armbands for this weekend’s matches in a show of support for the State League.

Presidents said the armbands would signal their clubs’ dedication to the continuation of the TSL, which they believe to be the best talent pathway model for the state and its players.

“The TSL is bigger than the seven vested TSL clubs,” Gadomski said.

“Should the TSL not be a part of future directions of the Tasmanian football steering committee’s plan then it is a shot to the heart of the entire football community in Tasmania.” 

Glenorchy’s Paul Kennedy said scrapping the TSL would create a “black hole” in the state’s talent pathway.

“I have spent 17 years in the VFL as a player and coach and can say without hesitation the TSL is a perfect stepping stone into this state’s own VFL team,” he said. 

“Without it, the step up to VFL football would be a quantum leap for our young players, and the Devils would be set up to fail.”
