Mitchell, 17, won the Richard Porter Scholarship after applying via a video filmed by his classmate Blake Chick.
His interest in poultry started eight years ago when he found a duck egg by a dam and hatched it, and now extends to breeding and successfully showing ducks, chickens and geese.
“My passion is poultry,” Mitchell said.
“I’d like to do meat and egg produce. I’d like to keep a good line for show,” he said.
Mitchell also attended the Royal Sydney Easter Show as a junior poultry judge and steward in 2017.
