Following wins in the Northern division in 2015 and 2017 the team won again by an individual game from the Tam O’Shanter combined team.
Jenny Hatton captained the team and was joined by Alison Unwin, Evon Ford, Dianne Jensen, Di Wright, Helen Streets and Margaret Farquhar earning the right to contest the state finals at Devonport on June 3 and 4 with the hope that they can add to state titles they won in 2015 and 2017.
Northern winners were Prospect Vale in division 1, Prospect Vale again in division 2 earning the right to play East Coast winner Bicheno, Exeter in division 3 and Bridport Combined in division 4.
Prospect Vale plays in the Cons Pearce Shield for division 2 and the right to represent the North in the North West shields and state finals.
In men’s pennant, Launceston and Riverside play off in the division 1 final on Sunday at Launceston Golf Club. Launceston has also won division 2, 3 and 4. The division 3 side plays Scamander River at St Helens on Sunday in the area final and the winners meet in the state finals on the North-West on May 26 and 27.
The handicap pennant semi-finals are being played at Scottsdale on Sunday with the winners to meet in the final on May 27.
State pride
Tasmania’s men’s team performed exceptionally well in the Australian interstate teams matches at the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide.
The team, captained by Mitch Van Noord, began the series with a halved result with the highly rated Queensland then had close results against Victoria and New South Wales before a final day win over South Australia to secure fifth place overall.
The team finished with 21 individual matches won and 21 lost and will be looking forward to the series in Hobart next year.
The women’s team played at Glenelg with best performers Sarah Johnstone and Georgia Milbourne on two wins apiece.
Farewell Slim
The Northern golf community was saddened to hear of the death last week of Graeme ‘Slim’ Forrester who was the tireless and long serving secretary manager of the Tattersalls and Sportsmans Social Golf Club.
Final countdown
Devonport will host the North-West pennant finals on Sunday.
Wynyard plays Ulverstone over 36 holes in division 1, Ulverstone takes on Thirlstane over 18 holes in division 2 and Wynyard and Penguin battle it out in division 3 over 18 holes.

Forthcoming tournaments are the Deloraine Ladies Canadian Foursome Visitors Day on Wednesday, May 23, the Joe Ellis Memorial Golf Day three-person ambrose at Malahide on June 2, and the St Helens June Tournament with women’s and men’s events on June 9 and 10.
