The Examiner’s Mission Possible campaign is offering every single person in our community the opportunity to help someone walk a little lighter and breathe a little easier.
It’s easy to cast your mind to Mission Possible as an initiative supporting those who are homeless.
While this is true, the donations received are so much more than addressing homelessness.
There are many people fleeing domestic violence who have to restart their lives. Or even a marital breakdown can mean a drastic change in circumstances.
There are those with significant and sudden health issues who find they can no longer work.
Those people who have lost their job and suddenly can’t find the funds to support their family.
The cost of living and accessing affordable housing is placing significant strain and pressure at this moment in time.
A little bit of the all of the above could be the reason people approach City Mission for help.
These are genuine requests from people who need just a little bit of support to get back on the right track.
We are incredibly lucky to have organisations like City Mission offering this support.
And we can all help.
We’re not asking for large cash donations or a shopping trolley of groceries.
Just one additional item on your usual shopping run is all we need. Whether it be a 99 cent packet of soup, a tube of toothpaste on special or a packet of biscuits perfect for school lunches.
Every item is gratefully received.
Not only will all the donations support locals in need, but the grocery items will allow City Mission to focus on significant programs that help those in our community rebuild their lives, connect with community and support our youth.
So your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to donate one item this week before the end of the campaign. It shouldn’t stop you from donating after this week, but it’s a chance for the donation to the measured as part of the drive to help refill the shelves at City Mission.
Dropping off a donation into one of the boxes or to City Mission is a change that you can hold in your hands.
As Gandhi said: be the change you wish to see in the world.
