In the heart of a popular tourist area that is renowned for its magnificent scenery and postcard views of the Western Tiers, Exton Grange exudes both presence and history.
The impressive home was built as “The Marsh Inn”, circa 1850, for Mr William Walter Motton (known as “Billy The Peacock” because of his fancy dressing style) who owned a stage coach business which operated between Westbury and Launceston in the 1840s.

In the 1860s a third level was added as servants’ quarters as well as an additional wing which was a bar with a dance floor above. It was renamed Exton Hotel in the 1890s and has been a private residence since the 1920s. In the 1960s it was purchased by the Wray family from Yorkshire, England, who renamed it Exton Grange.
Mr Neville Wray was a builder by trade and made several modifications to the roofline and added the wing on the southern side. Over the past seven years the home has been lovingly restored by members of the Wray family who have done an amazing job – tastefully embracing the original features and combining them with modern luxuries.
The two hectares of lush pasture attached to the homestead includes a horse arena and is on two titles.
The second title is zoned “Village” meaning it can be subdivided into several house blocks S.T.C.A. – the possibilities for this property are extensive.
