This comes after Labor announced it was committed to the law’s introduction on Saturday at International Workers’ Memorial Day.
Opposition workplace relations spokeswoman Sarah Lovell said a detailed consultation with industry and unions to work towards introducing the laws would occur.
However, Mr Barnett said Tasmania was one of six jurisdictions to have implemented “model” work health and safety laws and the state is participating in a national review of work, health and safety laws in 2018.
“These laws are founded on the principle that workers and others should be given the highest level of protection through the elimination or minimisation of risks arising from work,” he said.
