Issues with the Lindsay and Goderich street intersection would be addressed in the plan, with mayor Albert van Zetten saying a number of solutions were needed. 

“The Silos Hotel, the new Automobile Museum and the exciting North Bank redevelopment will only add to the congestion in that area,” he said.

The council is proposing a number of projects to help the issue.

At the recent state election, the Liberal’s pledged $40 million to expand the capacity of the Charles Street bridge for through traffic, and to redesign the Invermay road network to address traffic congestion, prior to the relocation of the University of Tasmania campus to Inveresk.

Alderman van Zetten said the proposed link would include a new signalised intersection at Goderich and Gleadow streets.

Other projects up for discussion include upgrading the Forster and Goderich street intersection to include an additional right-turn lane from Goderich Street into Forster Street.

A decision to send the masterplan out for public comment was passed by the council last week.
