The Launceston Chamber of Commerce executive officer Neil Grose said the design for the new university campus could include provisions for a new pilot school.
“The University of Tasmania is a key factor in making Launceston the best site along with the nationally-acclaimed Launceston Airport, which has been named best regional airport in Australia three years running,” he said.
“With the design of the new University precinct at Inveresk currently underway, the bid to secure the Qantas school for Launceston falls into a unique window of opportunity, where specifics could be designed around the pilot school to deliver tailored outcomes for Qantas.”
Australia’s major carrier announced earlier this year it wanted to establish a $200 million pilot academy in regional Australia.
The school would train up to 500 pilots a year
Bids are expected to come from Burnie, Devonport, Hobart, Geelong and Ballina, according to Mr Grose.
