The biannual awards recognise Tasmanian companies that show a commitment to workplace health and safety.
Tasmanian workplace injuries have more than halved in the 22 years since the awards’ inception, according to WorkCover Tasmania Board Member Julieann Buchanan.
“Last year, 6884 Tasmanians were injured [compared to 16,165 in 1996] and sadly, five Tasmanians lost their lives at work,” Ms Buchanan said.
WorkSafe has vowed to raise more awareness around workplace safety for younger workers in the lead-up to the 2018 awards.
It has also placed a larger emphasis on promoting World Day for Safety and Health at Work and the Workers’ Memorial Day, which both take place on Saturday.
“Young workers have a higher tendency of getting injured within their first year of employment,” Ms Buchanan said.
“In Tasmania last year alone, 972 young Tasmanians were injured at work.”
Applications can be lodged at worksafe.tas.gov.au until Sunday, June 3.
