Central arena this year will showcase the schools’ Junior Handlers’ Competition, with five schools competing with around 30 head of cattle.
Goth Whitlam and Blackstone Juke will be providing live music to entertain the crowds and get everyone up and moving across all three days of Agfest.
Brian Fish will be back with the ever popular bullock team. These magnificent beasts are skillfully handled and a reminder of times gone by.
There will also be fantastic product demonstrations throughout the day and Central Arena is a great place to check out all of the latest products in the agricultural industry.
In the Equine Arena there are plenty of things to see and do with two of the state’s top riders, Lydia Jackson and Alice Hirst, giving demonstrations. Jackson, a former top eventing rider, is now a top level dressage rider on the national stage.
Hirst is a young three-star eventer at the start of her career but has already notched up many fantastic performances both in Tasmania and at major events interstate.
Free Riding with Isobel Christian is another demonstration not to miss. This up-and-coming event rider recently placing second at the Pony Club State Trials. Watch her jump fences over 1.20m in height without a saddle or a bridle.
Longford horse breeder Freyr Colvin will also be giving a demonstration of dressage to music that is bound to be breathtaking.
If western riding is more your discipline Karen Fish Junior will be giving a breakaway roping demonstration – this rodeo queen is the best in the business.
In addition the Tasmanian Extreme Cowboys Association, the Can Do Ranch, Tas Racing and Scoot Boots will also be providing educational and entertaining demonstrations over the three days.
What’s new this year
New at Agfest this year is Marine and Safety Tasmania sponsoring the marine area and holding a boat show.
This will be showcase all the new vessel releases, the latest in engine technology, life jacket information and the popular fishcare site.
All watercraft users are catered for with kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, pot haulers and many more boating and fishing accessories on display. Talk to experts about personal watercraft, marine radio and anything to do with Inland Fisheries.
This year the craft pavilions have also undergone a transformation with two of the five pavilions to be filled with only local Tasmanian artisans and their handmade goods, offering a unique shopping experience.
One pavilion will focus solely on homewares.
