A strong contingent of Tasmanian rising track and field stars will head to the Gold Coast this weekend in the hope of emulating the nation’s Commonwealth Games idols.

Thirty-two athletes will fly out on Thursday for the Australian Little Athletics Championships on Saturday and Sunday. States and territories, except the Northern Territory, will be represented with 15 events to be contested over two days.
Under-13 boys and girls will participate in: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 80m hurdles, 200m hurdles, 1500m walk, 4x100m team relay, long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus and javelin. Six athletes under-15 athletes will take part in the multi-event championship, which consist of 100m hurdles, discus, long jump, 100m, high jump, javelin and 800m for boys and 90m hurdles, shot put, high jump, 200m, javelin, long jump and 800m for girls.
Team managers Kaylene Knee, Wim Vaessen, Brett Gillow and Josh Mason will also travel with the team.
The squads will explore the Gold Coast leading into the championships, which will be live streamed and can be followed via Athletics Australia’s Facebook page.
