The tourism development at Dolphin Sands would include 139 villas and units at the Cambria Homestead Precinct, 161 units and villas along the river, an 80-unit health retreat, golf course, 20 accommodation units at the golf range, and a 150-room resort.

It would also include community meeting and entertainment facilities, crematoria and cemeteries, educational and occasional care, boating, sport and recreation facilities.

Glamorgan Spring Bay mayor Michael Kent said it would be a “huge” investment in the region.

“It’s a $50 to $100 million project ... it’s unbelievable for that amount to be spent on the East Coast,” he said.

Ireneinc Planning and Urban Design were engaged by Cambria Green Agriculture and Tourism Management to prepare a master plan for the project.

“The Cambria development involves the establishment of a world class five-star eco-tourism resort that preserves and protects the unique flora and fauna of the magnificent eastern Tasmanian coastal region,” the report said.

“It is considered that the Cambria Project will establish the benchmark in luxury eco-tourism in Tasmania.”

The multi-million dollar project will be discussed at Tuesday’s Glamorgan Spring Bay Council meeting, with amendments to the planning scheme requested.

A development application will not be lodged until the request is approved.
