The 48-year-old man will appear in court after police detected the car about 2.30pm on Saturday.
The Tasman Highway is a 100km/h zone.
Tasmania Police intercepted the driver safely and the car, a Ford sedan, has been clamped.
The man will be unable to drive the car until the conclusion of his court appearances.
“Speeding continues to be a factor in serious and fatal crashes,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
Tasmania Police conduct regular enforcement activities to remind drivers to obey signposted speed limits.
The spokesperson described the actions of the driver as “reckless and selfish.”
“Other road users have the right to use the roads lawfully, and not have to negotiate the additional judgement challenges that such behaviour creates.”
Anyone caught travelling above the speed limit can be issued an infringement notice that has a monetary penalty.
However, it is not uncommon for an incident such as this to attract a penalty of four months’ disqualification, the loss of six demerit points and about $1000.
